Hawaii
Kai
A sprawling East Honolulu Community, which has
recently exploded with new construction not seen since the 1970s
was bombarded Saturday night - April 23rd - with hot rods at its
first cruise night thanks to Arnold Dowling and Chuck Spainhower of
Hawaii Independent Cruise Nights.
At an unconfirmed count there had been over 130 to 140 street rods spread
across the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center parking lot. There were so many cars that
in some places, "they had to double park them," said Chuck. Seems
that parking was not a deterrent for the location though, you could just tell
by looking at all the smiles coming from everybody who happened to be there
that they enjoyed every moment.
New hot rods were also out for the first time and drawing a crowd. "At
least three of them that I have never seen before were out," Chuck said.
"It was a good turnout."
And
what also seem to be a pleasant shot across Hawaiis airwaves
during HICNs Hawaii Kai event was a barrage of tunes from the `60s
and 70s courtesy of 107.9 KGMZ Oldies radio.
Despite
what many management officials might have thought in the past about
holding a cruise night at the busy shopping center, it could have
been perhaps one of the best cruse nights ever from Hawaii
Independent Cruise Nights.
