NINTH
WEEK
This week was spent driving our way across the country heading
to Las Vegas, Nevada. Along the way, we spent the night in Oklahoma
City and Frank & Barbara Roberts picked us up at the motel that
afternoon and took us to their home, "The Barn", which is
really 2/3 garage and 1/3 their living quarters.
It
is a very nice "Barn" and we really enjoyed the visit
there. We traveled a few days crossing parts of Texas, New Mexico,
Arizona and into Las Vegas, Nevada. Spent a few days in Las Vegas
for some R & R and to rejuvenate our bodies and get ready for
the Hot trip across the Mojave Desert to California.
TENTH
WEEK
Our destination this week was to be in Pleasanton, CA for the
GOODGUYS WEST COAST NATIONALS the weekend of August 26-28. We left
Las Vegas on Tuesday morning, August 23 and crossed the Mojave
Desert on to Tulare, CA.
The
next morning we visited Sequoia National Park and again spent the
night in Tulare. On Thursday morning we traveled to Pleasanton and
arrived at noon. Registered for the West Coast Nationals that
afternoon and spent the weekend at the Alameda Fairgrounds.
There
we met other Hawaii cruisers, Butch & Louise Meyers,
Alvin & Darlene Caldeira, Alan & Lynn Honda, Jack & Gail
Hiraishi, Bob Bardo, Kenneth DoSantos, Vernon Pai, Milton Arakawa.
There were other street rodders from Hawaii and we apologize for not
mentioning all of them. We also spent part of the weekend with Al
& Kristina Manning from Paso Robles, CA. and Jerry &
Charlotte Gaskill of Santa Maria, CA. We were again fortunate to
receive an award for Long Distance Honorary at the
Fairgrounds.
ELEVENTH
WEEK
We left the Alameda Fairgrounds after the award ceremony on Sunday
and headed to South San Francisco to spend the night. The following
morning we drove across the Oakland Bay Bridge to the Horizon Lines
office at the Oakland Harbor to have our car shipped home. Our car
arrived in Honolulu in early September.
EPILOGUE:
In reflecting upon our trip, it was such an educational experience
to see and visit our beautiful country that we only read about or
see on TV.
We
thoroughly enjoyed this cruise and we met so many nice people in so
many beautiful places. It is true; STREET RODDERS ARE THE NICEST
PEOPLE.
It
was also quite amazing that we traveled Coast to Coast in a 1932
Ford Streetrod that was completely homebuilt by a couple that has no
special talents.
Our
total miles traveled on this cruise were little over 8,000 miles. We
would like to do another Cruising America trip in the future. This
was a dream cruise in our street rod and recommend all street
rodders to participate in a long cruise in their street rods. This
was truly a cruise of a lifetime for us. Mahalo to all for taking
the time to read about our adventure. — Ron Yamaguchi
