CEDAR HILL,
TEXAS
–
Originally from
Palolo Valley, Hawaii born and raised Sal Salvador
has been creating some of the wildest
looking futuristic rods ever to come from one man’s
imagination. After making several trips back and
forth to the mainland since `75, Sal ended up
making his new home away from home Cedar Hill,
Texas. Today he sits in front of his elaborate Mac
computer system working with some of the most
sophisticated 3-D graphic & animated programs
- making his creation’s, SpaceRods, come to
life.

"When
I was a kid, I used to dream of designing and
building my own street rod," Sal said.
"But money was tight
then, so I began to create renderings of some of
the things I’d like to have in my own custom
made rod." With that in mind, Sal set out to
learn how to work with many sophisticated computer
graphic design programs such as, Maya, which he
claims he’s just beginning to scratch the
surface with, and Bryce 5.0 which he actually has
learned quite well. All in all, it only took him a
few short months to get it down to a science.
SpaceRods
actually started out for his son. "I created
"SpaceRods" originally for my son Sal
Jr. as a Christmas / Birthday gift a couple of
years ago. Then you know, one thing lead to
another Braddah."

Any
idea that pops into Sal’s mind can usually be
whipped out quickly on paper within a few short
hours of conception.
His
concept of SpaceRods isn’t limited to just
street rods either and Salvador’s designs have
also been requested by some of the most rich and
famous. After sending NBC’s Tonight Show Host
and car buff Jay Leno a framed illustration of one
of his SpaceRod designs, Leno became so impressed
that Sal immediately received a call from Mr. Leno’s
office thanking him along with a sincere
invitation to California so the two could meet in
person.

Turning
Imagination into reality; Professional T Bucket
builder, Bob Chester of Spirit Industries based in
Arkansas, (pictured with Sal standing next to the
XXX-Rod) also will be building an actual rod from
one of Sal’s SpaceRod designs.
Plans
are being meticulously drawn up at this time to
build the XXX-Rod into an actual car and if all
goes according to plan, will be available for
purchase in the near future through Spirit Industries.

In
the next few months, Sal will be hard at work
creating his own website that will offer many of
his creations from Posters, Tee-shirt’s, Metal
Signs, to just plain cool garage art. Keep an eye
out for it but, if you can’t wait to have one of
his original designs by the time he gets his
website up, you can contact him by email. He’d
be happy to hear from you.
